The project approach in action

I am so excited to share this project with you!

As you may know, our after-school program is for ages 4-8. However, this school year we added an age group(Muchachos). Three of our students turned 9 and 10 last summer and they wanted to continue with the program.

As the beginning of the school year was approaching, I began to panic…

My thought process:

“I’ve never worked with this age group in a classroom setting”
“Is our environment going to engage them”
“Are they going to be taller than me by the end of the year” JAJA = HAHA

Then…

I took a big breath and decided to let them lead and truly become a facilitator of their learning.

Yet again I have been overwhelmed by all the learning that is possible when we allow children to follow their interests and we truly respect their ideas.
